Camp Bastian Mikumi is a family-owned safari camp established in 2015, situated in the buffer zone of Mikumi National Park, just 1 kilometer from the park boundary. Founded by Gabriel and Ditta, a Danish-Tanzanian couple, the camp features nine individually designed cottages with locally crafted furnishings, private verandas, and en-suite bathrooms, all set among natural gardens with the sounds of birds and crickets.
Guests enjoy open-jeep game drives into Mikumi National Park, walking safaris, bird watching, cycling safaris, and cultural village visits. The open-air restaurant serves home-cooked meals prepared with locally sourced produce, complemented by a bar and relaxing swimming pool area. The camp also arranges excursions to Udzungwa Mountains for waterfall hikes. Over 30 staff are employed from the local community, and Danish, English, and Swahili are spoken.
The southern circuit's front door — just four hours from Dar es Salaam by road. Mikumi's open Mkata Floodplain gets compared to a pocket-sized Serengeti, with elephants, lions, giraffes, and wild dogs framed against the Uluguru Mountains.
