Mabata Makali Lodge & Camp is a mid-range tented camp situated at the border of Ruaha National Park near the Madogoro Rangers post and Idodi village in the Iringa Region. The property features spacious, traditionally built thatched accommodations with African-style decor, en-suite bathrooms, mosquito nets, sitting areas, and private balconies overlooking the bush. Each room is individually named after local wildlife — Simba, Tembo, Kongoni, Kudu, Swala, Pofu, and Kobe — with the VIP Kongoni room offering direct pool access.
The lodge offers game drives into Ruaha National Park, walking safaris, and bird watching in one of Tanzania's most biodiverse parks. Facilities include a swimming pool, bar with volleyball court, and on-site restaurant. The property is approximately 22 km from Ruaha's main park entrance and 95 km from Iringa town. Owned and operated by Mukuta Travel & Tours, the lodge serves as a comfortable base for exploring Ruaha's remarkable wildlife including large elephant herds, lion prides, wild dogs, and over 500 bird species.
Tanzania's largest national park — and one of its emptiest. Over 12,000 elephants share baobab-studded hills along the Great Ruaha River with wild dogs, big lion prides, and rare antelope species you won't spot anywhere else in the country. All with a fraction of the vehicles you'd deal with up north.
