Rhino Lodge is a refreshingly simple lodge located just a few hundred meters from the Ngorongoro Crater rim, offering the best value accommodation in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Opened in 2007, the lodge faces dense montane forest on the crater slopes with glorious vistas of misty forests and distant Mount Oldeani.
The lodge features 24 self-contained rooms arranged around a courtyard, each with private veranda overlooking scenic forest views and wood-burning stoves for warmth on chilly crater nights. All rooms include comfortable beds and en-suite bathrooms.
The well-kept grounds are regularly visited by local wildlife including elephants, buffalo, waterbuck, zebra, hyena, and Marabou storks. Operated in conjunction with the Ngorongoro Pastoral Council, the lodge employs local Maasai and Iraqw tribal members and offers village visits. The lodge has a well-stocked bar, dining room with local African setting, and campfire areas for evening storytelling.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area combines dramatic highland scenery with access to the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater. The crater floor supports dense wildlife populations and excellent Big Five potential, including chances to spot black rhino in an extraordinary setting.
